The psalm details the cycle of nature - the moon marking seasons, the sun knowing when to set, and the darkness of night wherein the beasts of the forest prowl (v. 20). The young lions roar for prey and lie down in their dens (v. 22) when the sun rises.
God's glory is everywhere. He is clothed with splendor and majesty (v. 1), covering himself with a garment of light. If he touches the mountains, they smoke (v. 32). The psalmist vows to sing to the Lord as long as he lives, hoping his meditation is pleasing.
Yet, there is a sober note at the end - a prayer that sinners vanish from the earth (v. 35) so that the harmony of creation is restored. But the final word is praise: "Bless the Lord, O my soul."
